Is the Procedure Right for You?
Ear surgery is performed to primarily correct unattractive folds or protruding ears. Some may choose to undergo the procedure in order to reshape or reposition their ears for a better, more symmetrical final result. For others, bigger ears may be the goal of surgery due to the presence of undeveloped cartilage and skin that affects hearing.
What is the Cost of Otoplasty?
On average, otoplasty surgery in Houston costs $4,000 – $6,500. The final price will ultimately depend on surgeons’ fees and anesthesia fees, among the various medical expenses. Cosmetic ear surgery may not be covered by insurance providers.
Yeung Institute accepts cash, major credit cards, and personal checks. An accurate quotation of your final surgical costs will be given during your initial consultation.
The Otoplasty Procedure
Our doctor utilizes one of three ear surgery techniques, depending on the type of correction you require:
- Ear augmentation – Increases the size of the ear lobes.
- Ear reduction – Decreases the size of the ear lobes.
- Ear Pinning (Otopexy) – Repositions the ears closer to the head.
Otoplasty surgery takes 1 – 4 hours to complete under general anesthesia. However, local anesthesia with sedation may be used for patients over the age of 18. Incision lines are drawn prior to surgery. Once under sedation, your surgeons will cut the incisions into the flesh and cartilage to readjust or reshape the ears. Once your desired ear shape, size, and position are achieved, your surgeons will close the incisions with dissolvable sutures.
What to Expect from the Recovery?
A light surgical dressing will be placed on your ears immediately after surgery. Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure but has a recovery period of 14 days to ensure that your hearing is not affected. You may return to work after 7 days, upon clearance from your doctors.
