Is a Neck Lift Right for You?
There are a number of reasons why people may opt to undergo a neck lift. Often, it’s to remove loose and sagging skin from the neck and chin due to aging or significant weight loss. Additionally, some will decide on surgery in order to reduce the presence of a double chin.
Your surgeon will talk with you in detail during your consultation to find out if a neck lift is what is right for you.
What is the Cost of a Neck Lift?
On average, the price of a neck lift in Houston is $4,000 – $9,000. This may vary depending on the anesthesia used and surgery center fees, among other factors. Neck lifts are often considered cosmetic surgeries, which insurance companies will not cover. However, the procedure may be covered if it is considered medically necessary, such as after cancer treatments.
The Yeung Institute accepts cash, personal checks, and all major credit cards. An accurate quote will be given your initial consultation with our doctors.
The Neck Lift Procedure
Due to the location of the incisions, it is highly recommended to undergo a neck lift with general anesthesia. Your neck and jowls will be marked on the appropriate incision and entry points, then further numbed with local anesthesia. In some cases, neck liposuction will be performed as needed.
Your surgeon will make an incision hidden in a crease underneath your chin to expose the underlying neck muscles. Extra fat underneath these muscles is removed, and the muscles are tightened along the midline to support loose skin once again. The result is an improved neck contour, wrinkles will disappear, and the two loose vertical lines that are so common in the neck will be gone. The entire procedure only takes 1 – 2 hours but undergoing additional procedures will increase the overall surgery time.
What Can You Expect from the Recovery?
You will wake up in a private recovery room with a bandage or dressings on your neck. It is important to keep these on to shorten your recovery time. The neck lift is an outpatient procedure and you can return home once cleared by your doctors.
You are advised to sleep with your head elevated for 1 – 2 weeks. Sutures will be removed after 5 days, and you may return to work after 7 days. Avoid straining your neck via physical and strenuous activities for up to 2 weeks. Full body showers may also resume after this time. The scar from a neck lift is very minimal and hidden in a crease underneath your chin.
