The facelift is a cosmetic procedure that brings a youthful vigor back to an aging face. Also known as a rhytidectomy, this procedure reduces the presence of sagging skin, droopy jowls, and deep creases across the face.
At the Yeung Institute in Houston, Texas, our board-certified facial plastic and ENT (ear, nose, and throat) surgeons, Dr. Cecil Yeung and Dr. Daniela Burchhardt craft natural results from innovative and minimally invasive techniques. As pioneers in aesthetic surgery, Dr. Yeung and Dr. Burchhardt provide multiple facelift techniques including deep plane facelift, neck lift, mini-facelift, and their patented and cutting-edge endoscopic facelift techniques to thousands of patients in-and-around Houston every year.
Is Facelift Right for You?
Ideal candidates for facelift surgery are often above the age of 35 and feel that the current features of the face may not match their youthful and vibrant attitude towards the world. A number of factors can contribute to visual signs of aging:
- Exposure to the sun and other environmental conditions
- Vices such as smoking and drinking
What are the Benefits of a Facelift?
As one of the most popular procedures in all of cosmetic surgery, facelift reduces signs of aging on the face and neck. When you age, your skin loses elasticity as a result of genetics, lifestyle, and sun exposure. Our doctors perform facelift surgery to reposition your facial muscles and soft tissue so your face looks younger, firmer, and refreshed.
A facelift can:
- Lessen visible signs of aging
- Eliminate deep creases and wrinkles around your nose and mouth
- Improve the contour of your jawline and tighten jowls
- Lift and tighten loose and excess skin
- Remove fat under your chin
- Create separation between your lower eyelids and cheeks
A personalized treatment plan will be developed during your initial consultation with our facial plastic surgeons. Their evaluation will specifically address your needs to ensure you attain the results you desire. In addition, our specialty in creating natural-looking results may combine skin care and surgical treatments that include both facelifts and neck lifts.
Costs & Financing
The normal range for a facelift at the Yeung Institute is between $8,000 – $30,000. An accurate quote will be given during your consultation. The final cost will cover the surgeon’s fees, surgical technique, anesthesia, facility fees, among other expenses. Additionally, the cost will increase in the event of complications and difficulties.
The Facelift Procedure
During your consultation, our surgeons will assess which options are best suited for your specific goals. The Yeung Institute continues to yield satisfying facelift results through several surgical approaches:
- Endoscopic Mid-Facelift: a minimally invasive surgery that focuses on improving the upper cheeks. It’s also a good choice to remedy drooping jowls and deep laugh lines, and for creating definition between your lower eyelids and cheeks.
- Deep Plane Facelift: Our surgeons reposition both muscle and skin. We target the
muscle underneath your skin to craft minimal tension, seamless scars, and long-lasting, natural result.
- Mini Facelift: A shorter procedure for patients with early signs of aging who desire a more defined jawline without the recovery of a deep plane facelift.
The facelift procedure typically takes 4-6 hours when it is done as the only procedure. Many
people have other procedures done simultaneously, such as a facial fat transfer or neck lift,
which will add more time to the procedure.
What can you Expect from the Recovery?
Since the facelift is a minimally invasive procedure, you can return home after surgery. It is important to have a family member or friend assist you during the first two days. Medication will be prescribed to help ease any discomfort. You can expect bruising and swelling to peak during the first week.
After one week, you can return to work once sutures have been removed. You can also resume activities such as driving, simple exercises, and chores. You should be cleared for exercise and other strenuous activities after one month. It can take up to a full year before final results manifest.

Facelift Q & A
- What is the difference between a mini facelift and a full facelift?
The mini facelift is often reserved for younger patients seeking a smaller lift. It can reduce and eliminate the presence of minor sagging in the neck and jaw while eliminating excess fat.
- What is done in a mini facelift?
The mini facelift is a minimally invasive surgical technique that uses shorter incisions along the hairline and ear to rejuvenate facial tissues. Once the skin is lifted, tissues along the lower half of the face are tightened to rejuvenate the cheeks and jawline.
- How can I expect my face to look over time?
There is no way to stop the natural aging process. The facelift is a procedure that restores your face to a younger appearance. The right skincare regiment and a healthy lifestyle can go a long way in maintaining your final results.
- How long will the effects of a facelift last vs. fillers?
Facelifts are procedures that lift the supporting tissues underneath the skin and reposition these to counteract the effects of aging. Fillers create a more youthful appearance by adding volume that is lost with time. They can help create desirable facial features such as high cheekbones or lessen the appearance of deep lines. Due to the differences in both procedure types, a facelift yields longer-lasting results since it works at directly tightening the underlying tissues of the face. Fillers are performed in the office and, depending on the type and need will require a number of treatments before you can see full results. The results will naturally fade within 1-2 years, on average.
- I have been exploring my options. Is it possible to undergo other procedures with my facelift?
It is common to combine multiple procedures together. Ultimately, it will depend on the assessment of your facial plastic surgeon in Houston and the changes you’d like to see in your face. Our surgeons find that eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), endoscopic brow lift, and/or fat transfer are the most popular procedures executed with the facelift. These procedures are often performed together.
