Is Eyelid Surgery Right for You?
Blepharoplasty not only improves the appearance of your eyelids but can also correct certain functional limitations. A good candidate for this procedure has one or more of the factors below:
- Sagging skin that interferes with your vision
- Bags and drooping skin in the lower eyelid
- Puffy eyes due to fatty deposits
- Fine wrinkles or crow lines around the eyelids
Schedule a consultation with the skilled doctors of the Yeung Institute to find out if eyelid surgery is right for you.
What is the Cost of Eyelid Surgery?
The price of a Blepharoplasty in Houston typically ranges between $3,000 – $8,000. Your final costs will depend on the degree of surgery, along with expenses that include OR (operating room) fees and anesthesia use. If the procedure is medically necessary, it may be covered by your insurance provider. The Yeung Institute only accepts cash, personal checks, and all major credit cards.
You will get an accurate quotation from your surgeon during your consultation.
The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery is expected to last 1-3 hours under general anesthesia. Surgery on the upper eyelid can be performed in the office if the patient chooses. Your surgeon will mark incision lines along your lash line or the natural eyelid crease. Additional anesthesia can be applied in the incision points.
Once incisions are made on your upper lids, your surgeon will remove excess eyelid skin and muscle. Severe sagging may require additional tightening. Lower eyelid surgery can be done through an incision just below the lash line or an incision hidden on the inside depending on the amount of skin laxity. Fat can be removed and/or repositioned to restore a smooth lower eyelid area, and excess skin is trimmed.
Eyelid surgery is frequently combined with fat transfer to help restore fat that we lose with aging.
What Can You Expect from the Recovery?
It can take between 1 – 2 months before you can expect a full recovery from surgery on the lower and upper lids. Avoid any physical activities and exercises for 5 – 7 days, and you may return to work after 7 days, upon clearance from your surgeons.
Your eyesight may be blurry and your eyelids will be swollen. This will improve over the course of 1-2 weeks.
Bruising and swelling, along with mild pain and dry eyes are expected. Our doctors recommend the use of a cold compress, as well as artificial tears and lubricating ointments to help protect your eyes during the healing period.
