Otoplasty(ears)
Ear deformities can decrease self-esteem and cause the face to look disproportioned. However, they can be easily and successfully corrected through a surgical procedure called Otoplasty. This procedure can pin back, reshape, and resize ears for a more symmetrical appearance without altering hearing ability.
During Surgery
Surgery begins with an incision just behind the ear, in the natural fold where the ear is joined to the head, to conceal any scars. The surgeon will then remove the necessary amounts of cartilage and skin required to achieve the right effect. In some cases, the surgeon will trim the cartilage, shaping it in to a more desirable form and then pin the cartilage back with permanent sutures to secure the cartilage.
What to expect after surgery
Pain and bruising are minimal, but the ears may remain tender for two to three weeks. A bandage is worn over the ears for several days and at night for two weeks. Most patients resume normal activities within one week after surgery.
